What were your top 5 TV shows of 2006?
hmmm....i think i pretty much addressed this in a previous post but i am bored and love to talk about tv so i'll answer it again.
1. the wire- omar- nuff said. end of the season was really heartbreaking though and much more intimate than previous ones because it largely followed kids who were poised on becoming corner kids or going the straight and narrow instead of already hardened thugs. and it brilliantly didn't go where you would expect. poor randy!!
2. dexter- creeeeepy. and kudos that the guy could go from playing uptight david on six feet under to a totally different-- even sometimes hunky-- character on dexter
3. rescue me-- i hate the musical montages at the end but this show continues to amaze me with the uncomfortable places it'll go and how well it pulls them off. sheila is just an amazing character. and poor confused probie.4. venture brothers- the monach just delights me to no end. we just got season one on dvd from my brother and watching them in order is much funnier than just randomly catching them as we were.
5. tie for b'star g and heroes. i think b'star g is actually a better show-- but i find myself really wanting to watch heroes a bit more. this is probably because i'm so far behind on b'star. also we did the stupid thing of watching the catch up dvd and jumping into this season. now i am going back and watching them all and while it's good i ultimately know the outcome so it ruins the suspense a bit. ah well. live and learn
*honorable mention goes to 30 rock. which i found *very* disappointing but has really picked it up last few episodes. largely because of this guy, dean winters.
he just graces every show he touches: oz, rescue me, sex and the city, and now 30 rock. of course the only reason i KEPT watching was because of alec baldwin. i find it tragic that it took so long for him, his agents etc to figure out he's not a leading man-- he's a brilliant character actor. think of all we missed out on!!!
and just for good measure- here are the most disappointing tv shows of 2006 (again- i think i mostly went over this so i refer back to my boredom and love of tv and indulge me.)
1. gilmore girls. it's so horrible. so so horrible. i hate luke. i hate his dumb, i-can't-act daughter. i hate rory and the money grubbing know-it-all brat she's become. even logan appears to be growing wary of her schtick. a rare good moment this season was when he told her off for being judgmental about trust fund kids since her rich grandparents paid for endless private school and she was basically living off her boyfriend's trust fund. seriously, rory. you suck. but i love the early seasons so much i can't stop watching. i have to know lorelei will be ok. so i wish they'd just end it already.
2. the nine. this was just so so so bad. for a while i kept tivoing it because i wanted to know what happened between the doctor guy and the other girl in the bank. then i just decided i didn't care.
3. smith- disappointing because i liked it and it got canceled. why did cbs even try if it was going to pull the plug so quick? it's a risky show and would have taken a while to build an audience. come on jerks!
4. desperate housewives- after all the hype that this season was back to good stuff- it's been pretty unbearable. if we didn't have tivo we would never watch it. we have to tivo through all the susan scenes. she's just unbearable. i hope mike does turn out to be some sort of psycho and offs her.
5. only one slot and a few more i could pick. both weeds and lost weren't as good as i'd hoped. but still not horrible. i'm going to say "brothers and sisters" (is that even the name?) not because i really invested a lot of time, i watched one episode-- and turned the channel before it was over. but given the cast i was horrified at how bad it was. really. i mean- what were all those people's agents thinking? ugh.
